Horadric Socket Cubing Recipes

Horadric Cube Socketing Recipes (Normal Items Only)

The Horadric Cube recipes for adding sockets only work on 'Normal' (white-named) items. They do not work on 'Superior', 'Damaged', 'Magic', 'Rare', 'Unique', or 'Set' items. Items that already have sockets also cannot be socketed this way.

Here are the specific recipes for each item type:

  • Weapons:
    • Ral Rune + Amn Rune + Perfect Amethyst + Normal Weapon Item
  • Body Armor:
    • Tal Rune + Thul Rune + Perfect Topaz + Normal Body Armor Item
  • Helms (Headgear):
    • Ral Rune + Thul Rune + Perfect Sapphire + Normal Helm Item
  • Shields:
    • Tal Rune + Amn Rune + Perfect Ruby + Normal Shield Item

Important Considerations:

  • Number of Sockets: The number of sockets added via the cube is randomly determined within the maximum possible sockets that item can have. For example, if an item can have a maximum of 3 sockets, it might roll 1, 2, or 3 sockets.
  • Maximum Socket Probability: Interestingly, items with a lower maximum possible socket count tend to have a higher chance of rolling their maximum sockets. For example, a 3-socket max item has a 66.67% chance to get 3 sockets, while a 2-socket max item has an 83.33% chance to get 2 sockets.
  • Item Level (ilvl) Matters: Even if items share the same name, their hidden 'Item Level' (ilvl) can differ based on the monster that dropped them or the area level. This ilvl determines the maximum number of sockets an item can have. It's crucial to check an item's potential maximum sockets (often found on Diablo 2 wikis or databases) to ensure it can roll the desired number for a specific Runeword.

Cautions:

  • You cannot use items that already have sockets or have modifiers like 'Superior' for these cube recipes.
  • Once sockets are added, you cannot revert the process or change the number of sockets if you don't get your desired roll. Choose wisely!
  • There is a cube recipe to remove runes, gems, or jewels from a socketed item, but this recipe destroys the items that were socketed. (Hel Rune + Town Portal Scroll + Socketed Item = Removes socketed items, but the contents are lost).

I hope this helps you with your Diablo 2 item socketing!
